David,
In light of your Winemakers' Diary post about the watering down of the Carignan and your concerns about the consistency of your bottling I thought that I would let you know the following.
When we opened our first '97 David Coffaro Zin it was pronounced as "this may be the best zin I have ever tasted". But the next one that we opened and tasted blind was a completely different wine. Although there was some identifiable Dry Creek fruit it was quite tart, more reminiscent of Carneros.
The two bottles came from the same case purchased at Prima in Walnut
Creek. I have not asked them if any other customers have had the same experience.
Looking forward to the next great bottle of David Coffaro Zin,
