Again I find it difficult to find the right words. This wine, like the 95 Cabernet, has melded into a superb wine! As we all know, Dave likes to make wines to be consumed while "young;" and it's one of the reason we buy his futures... I want a wine I can drink soon... if not *now*! <g> As good as this wine was from bottling, it has become a superior juice while resting for these three years! (Wish I had saved more. ;-)
Real cork. No leakage and no deposits, even though these bottles have been stored upside down, the wine has thrown no sediment.
Color: Deep, dark, clear garnet. Beautiful.
Meniscus: Moderate, color to the rim, several random, moderately slow to form, legs.
Nose: Unmistakable Zin spice; a powerful boquet of fruit including Boysenberry, blackberry and subtle currant. Again, as with the 95 Cabernet the fruit isn't as explosive as it was when bottled, but has amalgamated to a more rounded and more subtle presentation.
Palate: The fruit and Zin spice boquet continues, dissolving expansively over the entire mouth. The balance is wonderful, nothing overpowers anything else, with no hint of alcohol bite. Swishing and swallowing impresses with the flavor and the tingle of those glands just above the rear of the tongue; with the finish long and pleasant.
I'm giving this one a 90!
