David Coffaro Vineyard and Winery Winemaker's Diary

Weeks 30 - 31
August 3, 2003 to August 16, 2003

  Tuesday August 5, 2003

Tomorrow we will re-bottle 40 cases of 2002 Late Harvest Sauv Blanc. We have found out that this wine bottled in April has a small amount of yeast left in about one third of the bottles. It is real strange that it appears that the other two thirds of the wine looks and tastes fine. This re-bottling will require us to pull corks, and empty about 500 bottles. This will be easy compared to the re-bottling of our Dry Sauv Blanc on May 22.

Today, also Steve and I took a look at Bernier's Vineyard. The vineyard is actually owned by the Sibarys and we may call the wine 2003 Neighbor's Zinfandel. After visiting the vineyard which looked great, we stopped off at Mozzoco Winery. Mozzoco bought the fruit, from the Sibary vineyard, in the last two years. Phyllis, the winemaker, was nice enough to let us taste a sample from the barrel of the 2002 wine. Steve and I were very impressed and are very excited about the potential wine from this fruit.

Thursday August 14, 2003

You may have received an e-mail from us announcing some info regarding our 2002 wines. We sent the e-mail to those who have bought any of our 2001, 2002 or 2003 wines. We have also announced an open house for August 23 and 24 when we plan on having entertainment and some food besides our 2002 wines to taste. I'll have more info soon.
