David Coffaro Vineyard and Winery Winemaker's Diary

Weeks 29 - 30
July 24, 2005 to August 6, 2005

The resurfacing of our floor is finished. We had a 3/16 inch thick epoxy coating put over our concrete.

It didn't work out for me to have a good meal out up North last week. I hate driving in strange cities late at night and taxis can get expensive. I put about 1800 miles on my BMW. Susie visited many schools, but hasn't made up her mind on where she would like to go for college. I thought the University of Oregon and Washington were the most beautiful. Also I was impressed with Western Washington University in Bellingham.

Harvest of Peloursin looks to be 4 weeks away and zin should be 5 to 6 weeks depending on the weather.

Sales at Plaza Farms in Healdsburg are dismal. It is extremely depressing. Management is not doing a good job on any aspect of the operation. We are losing a great deal of money every week we are in this venture. We will survive so don't worry and I'd like to go into more detail, but I think I better keep my mouth shut for now.

Some of you I know are wondering what my favorite wines for 2004 are. I like intensity and tannin so I like the wines with those characteristics. That would be the Block 4, Aca Modot, Estate Cuvee, My Zin, Petite Sirah and Cabernet. But I have to admit the Escuro is the most interesting. Many customers are enthused by the Estate Zin, Terre Melange, Sangiovese and Carignan. Remember I have to like them all. The Bernier's Zin, Aca Modot and Barbera are sold out so I have not tasted them much.
