Sunday February 24, 2013

I love this time of year for many reasons........We do most of our business in the next few months and the days are getting longer and warmer AND everything is getting green and coming alive. Unless I have an accident, but in poor health, I believe I would fight harder to stay alive anytime between March and July. Of course there are many great things through out the year, especially Harvest and the NFL and the holidays at the end of the year, but the next few months are special to me. I believe when one passes 80 years old, you have to have a desire to live........in other words one must be happy with life. I have heard and seen many people lose the fire in their Being for reasons that seem depressing after that age, and then go down hill and their body will not fight off the demons of age. Every year I have more pain, but I love what I am doing and love the challenge of life, especially wine making. On May 3rd I will be 70 years old and I am looking forward to the continued challenge.............

Last night I opened our 2010 Cabernet that was only aged 10 months. The label said it is over 15% alcohol. I was amazed that it tasted so young, very tannic and with high acid. I predict this wine will age well for 20 years. A few nights ago I opened a 2009 Lagrein and it had aged somewhat but still needs many more years to mellow out.

I love the Oscars. I have not been happy with the best picture winners in most of the last several years and I think I will not be happy tonight BUT I love the way movies are so creative. I love making wine and it comes easy so I am creative in my own way but I could never imagine inspiring people the way people involved in movies can do.
