Monday June 10, 2013

I am not a normal person, I know that for a fact after 70 years. I think the govt is doing OK and wants to do the best to protect us from something that could hurt us. That is obvious. The govt has enfranchised on my rights before, but I have nothing to hide.............

Now way back when.......A group of us back in 1967 went to Raider games together. I think I had 5 tickets in my name. We were all local near San Francisco and we drove over to Raider games. We were really not friends, we had little in common, but we had the passion for the Raiders.

We were all appalled when our nation invaded Viet Nam. During the time we were together for 8 years.........we were upset everyday with the news of more killed so there were several years we would not stand up for our National anthem in the Oakland Colosseum. It was tough, but many others in the stands those games during the early seventies would not stand up and many more people I knew would put stamps upside down to show our disrespect for our govt.

so I am keeping an open mind with this revelation today about leaks. I am glued to Rachele now so i need to get up to see more...................

We are off to New Orleans soon and will have a nice time. I hate planes as I have said before, not necessarily because I will die......it's just I hate waiting around doing nothing. I like to be in control and I have no control under the influence of a plane. Of course also as I said there is delay......like inspection everywhere you go!!!. As you can see I am not normal............I like govt in most times but I am keeping an open mind............

9:30 Pm: We had a violent lighting and thunder storm around our area last night. All of us in this 20 mile area were awoken. We are not used to lighting storms and do get thunder some times.........but this was violent.....Through the shades I could see light strike. I woke up and was amazed.....then i went back to sleep to experience what has happened before, usually nothing.......not this time......about 30 minute later.......more light.......I opened the blinds and shades........I counted how long it took to thunder and i figured every time about 4 to 7 seconds//////that meant we were 4 miles at least from the lighting strike. I found out today it was centered in Healdsburg 7 miles away and there was more action there.........OK we do not have bolt touch downs here but it was fun all night and still into the morning with thunder at 7:30 am........

Now I have my last concern about leaving in a few days solved. It rained today so now I can go off to sulfur tomorrow morning. I was going to be away when the next time to sulfur, Now since the rain I need to sulfur tomorrow morning. I suspect it will be cool and very calm and I will see a fine mist of powder from the sulfur out in a cloud all over the vineyard, a beautiful sight, few of us get to experience. I am fortunate. I will be in my cab-over tractor....... protected from the elements but in the early days here.....1979 through 1985 . , I would go out and endure sulfur on a back pack and wore swim goggles.....tomorrow will be a special day. It will be fun again.......

I was wrong about the distance from when lightning is seen and actually where it was. I nice customer had it right. Here is what Wikipedia says:

Calculating distance

A flash of lightning, followed after some seconds by a rumble of thunder illustrates the fact that sound travels significantly slower than light. Using this difference, one can estimate how far away the bolt of lightning is by timing the interval between seeing the flash and hearing thunder. The speed of sound in dry air is approximately 343 m/s or 1,127 ft/s or 768 mph (1,236 km/h) at 20 °C (68 °F).[9] However, this figure is only an approximation, as air is hardly dry in a thunderstorm.

The speed of light is high enough that it can be taken as infinite in this calculation because of the relatively small distance involved. Therefore, the lightning is approximately one kilometer distant for every 2.9 seconds that elapse between the visible flash and the first sound of thunder (or one mile for every 4.8 seconds). In the same five seconds, the light could have traveled the same distance as circling the globe 37 times. Thunder is seldom heard at distances over 20 kilometers (12 mi).[3] A very bright flash of lightning and an almost simultaneous sharp "crack" of thunder, a thundercrack, therefore indicates that the lightning strike was very near.

9:00 Pm: I am leaving soon for a short vacation. Pat says I should not say when we are going to be away. I would like to tell you when we are leaving and when we will be back, but I have to respect my wife's paranoia. Why would someone decide to come in here and cause a problem? I have nothing to hide.......

They are cutting trees down. It is hard for me since I love trees. I hired a tree service who works with the county and I asked could I hire you. They said yes! These guys work for all the wineries around here, he said. I am very trusting and it looks like they are doing a good job.

So I decided to take down all the pine trees in front of the winery on Dry Creek Road. Some of you here have probably seen these trees which were plated prior to when we came here in 1979. I heard the road was widened in 1959 by the county......I also heard the previous owner decided to plant trees on the new county property. I never met her but I have heard from her husband and others she was and maybe still is a  strong person.  I see..........100 pine trees in 700 feet............she made a statement.....this dynamic lady wanted to keep the sound from the road, down,...... somewhat because of the widening of the road. Now we see the dam was put in in the 70's and created a new rush here. This lady saw the future......traffic....wineries........but .only one store and not one restauarant.

Pat is concerned about the sound of the traffic now that the tress will be down .....I am not.......

These trees are nice in Tahoe but here they are causing a big problem. They have been falling over for all the time I have been here SO some and most of th trees are getting much higher             I had someone come by a few months ago and said he was fearing one of the trees would come down on his car while he drove by. That is paranoia, but it made me think, especially when I heard he lived here as a young person with the relatives who planted the trees.

So I have decided to help out the county and pay for the removal of the pine trees. It is expensive but I need to plant olive trees.........

i am heading off to New Orleans. The French Quarter is the most interesting place i have ever been.......I hope to survive..............the most live place in the USA...........
