The vines are growing finally. The weather has been perfect for a change from past seasons which concerns me. There has never been a perfect season. Sure we are behind two or three weeks. but that can be made up with hot weather for a normal harvest about the second week in September. I went out to sulfur yesterday in perfect conditions of very calm winds. Everything is shaping up for a perfect bloom time starting as early as next week. Wednesday May 31, 2006 We are in full bloom. I am real surprised that bloom is happening so quickly. I did expect the start of bloom later this week, but I saw the first indication last Friday. The weather has been perfect so we should be through bloom in a week or so. Then we can start seeing the berries swell up. This is the last day for 2004 Futures customers to claim their wine and I have not heard from some. That means I may have wine that has been sold out in the past available for resale next week. Pat and I have decided to have our annual August Open House Pick-up Party on August 19th and 20th. We will bottle the 2005 Zp2C earlier that week and of course all the other wine will be bottled in July. We will be selling our three 2005 bottled wines starting tomorrow. That would be our 2005 Chardonnay, Fresco and Late Harvest Sauv Blanc. I am extremely happy with the way all three wines have developed in the bottle since we bottled 5 weeks ago. I was not happy that the two white wines were not perfectly clear, but they have cleared up somewhat and they taste great. I really like the crispness of the Chardonnay and the Late Harvest could be the best I have produced. The Fresco is wonderful chilled down a little now that the warm days have arrived. |
