David Coffaro Vineyard and Winery Winemaker's Diary

Week 13
March 24, 2002 to March 30, 2002

  Wednesday, March 27, 2002

Yes, we did finish our bottling. Yesterday, we bottled 338 cases of our Estate dry Sauv Blanc and 65 cases in half bottles of Late Harvest Sauv Blanc. We have both wines available for sale till the end of the month at $10.50 for the dry SB and $16 for the Late Harvest. On the first of the month we will be offering the dry one at $12 and the sweet one at $18. We are extremely happy with both.

Today Pat and I finished stuffing 260 envelopes with our new 2002 Pre Harvest offering for those who do not have E-Mail. We will mail these forms out on Friday. On Monday all of you with e-mails will receive a link to our website which will contain our new 2002 pre-harvest offering. Yesterday I was reading reviews on some zins in two respected publications. I was shocked that the prices of these wines had gone up so much from last year. Most in the high 20's and some in the $30 to 40 range. I asked Pat and Brendan if they felt that I was foolish for selling my wine at such low prices. After a long discussion it was decided that I should keep my prices low on this pre-harvest offering until the end of the month, April 30 and then start raising my prices faster than in the past. After one year on the 2001's we are still at only $16. That will change next year.

As I said two weeks ago we will be offering our 2002 basic wines (Estate Cuvee, Zin, Carignan and Petite Sirah) on a first come first served basis for $13.25 per bottle. BUT on May first we will go to $15. That is still extremely reasonable compared to my competitors.
