BEHIND THE BARREL NEWS
Spotlight and Wine Quip!
Matt's Unique Perspective on Our Wines

As summertime draws to a close we are wondering when harvest will begin.  Waking up in the morning to a valley full of mist is beautiful and I am sure that travelers who are visiting from out of town are delighted at the picturesque vistas in front of them.  We however are looking forward to the warmer weather that has to be on its way.  Someone asked me the other day if it was going to be a bad year with the weather hovering in the upper seventies to mid eighties.  I told them that every year the French make wine that gets a long cool hang time and people seem to think that the French know what they are doing and doing it well.  This will be our French year.

On a more wine driven note, we have just released our 2009 vintage bottles and wanted to let you know that our release/pick up party was a success.  We saw a lot of people who are David Coffaro Winery advocates and who are friends.  Over the course of the weekend we served about 350 people delicious ribs and a broad spectrum of our wines.  We also sold out of our 2009 Lagrein and our 2009 ZP2C.  We are very close to selling out of our 2009 Pinot Noir, 2009 Barbera, 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2009 Carignan.  Of course, once they are gone you can always order the next vintage!

Since harvest will “most likely” (nobody can predict the weather) start towards the second week of September, should you be in the area you can always swing in and taste something while watching me clean something.  Heck, I might even be able to let you pick up a rag or a brush.  We should be beginning to harvest our Pinot Noir and our sparkling project grapes about the second week of September.  That will be fun!

Lastly I want to let you know to put it into the calendar, December 4th, we will be having our next pick up party for the 2009 wines. That is a one day affair and will be a great time to come by to pick up your wines for a couple of reasons. First off is that we will be finished with harvest and in a more mellow mood. Next is that we will be only a month away from bottling up all of our Special held back 2009 wines that are getting an additional six months of oak. You might get a taste if you ask nicely. Check out the website for orders and our Facebook page for little updates about the goings on here and some interesting pictures.

Cheers,
