BEHIND THE BARREL NEWS
Spotlight and Wine Quip!
Matt's Unique Perspective on Our WinesThe drought has finally ended here in Sonoma County! We have received over fourteen inches of rain in the past month and such high winds that a tree fell in our front yard! This made for a rather wet blending environment for us here at the winery during the first couple of weeks o f January. All went well though and our 2009 vintage is blended and tasting phenomenal.
February brings with it the bottling of our 2009 Rose, our 2009 Sauvignon Blanc and our longer aged 2008 Ultimate Cuvee. These are available for pick up towards the middle of the month and will be officially released in the coming weeks. We are raising our 2009 Futures price ever so slightly as we do every year after blending and they are available for tasting and purchase here in the winery, or for those of you outside the area you may visit our website. The 2009 Escuro is tasting so interesting right now out of the barrel, both Dave and myself are looking forward to what it will taste like by the time it is bottled in July.
Don't forget to take advantage of our sale wines that are still available at a discounted price of $12/bottle for our club members, $14/bottle for our Vintage Circle members and $20/bottle for our dedicated customers. This is down from the normal price $28/bottle that we were selling them for and makes it the perfect time to fill your cellars with either our 2006 Escuro (Sonoma County), our 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon (Sonoma County) or our 2006 Petite Sirah (North Coast). All feature beautiful dark fruit flavors and well balanced tannins. I recently enjoyed a bottle of our 2006 Escuro with a slow cooked Osso Bucco and a saffron and Pecorino Romano risotto. A pairing that went together fantastically!
I hope to see you sometime soon in February and don't miss the barrel tasting events that are coming up the first and second weekends in March. It is a great event and we are talking about having some New Orleans cuisine to go with our wines.
Cheers,
Matt Wilson
